Bipashna & Dozzer | Techno Djs & Producers
Introducing Bipashna & Dozzer
Bipashna: I was born in India, but I moved to Nepal in my early teen days. Currently I am an international student at the HAN University, Arnhem, The Netherlands. So I basically am studying on a daily basis.
Dozzer: I was born in Nepal and I am now residing in Arnhem too. There is not really one thing I do on a regular basis, every day is different. But mostly, just chilling!
How did you get to know each other and what made you decide to work together? Do you have different roles during music production?
Bipashna: Exactly like said before, I get to know Dozzer whilst she was pursuing her studies. Recently we became acquaintances as we were being on the same path. We are learning and helping each other grow whilst producing, roles specifically can’t be specified as it is always changing.
Dozzer: We know each other since high school, but we were not good friends until a couple years after. It was not really a decision to work together, but it just happened to be. Our roles are not fixed when it comes to music production, we are working as a team on every track.
How is techno music viewed in your culture?
Bipashna: Many people are not fond of techno but a lot are. It differs from person to person.
Dozzer: I was pretty much completely unaware of the techno culture back in Nepal. It is still basically underground but is slowly coming into view. I only gained deep insight in this scene after meeting Bipashna.
In a regular week, how many hours do you spend producing?
Again, it varies a lot for me. Some weeks I would only produce for a few hours, some weeks I would spend hours from Monday to Sunday working with something. It just depends if I have tracks that excite me and motivate me to work on them. Going back to what I said, I don’t like to force myself into producing when I don’t feel particularly inspired, it just always depends on what I am working with.
When did you come into contact with techno and what is appealing to you about techno music?
Bipashna: I was introduced to a certain track on Dozzer her hard-drive under the name “techno”. She had no idea what it meant or how to differentiate the genre, but I was told to pay attention to the elements. This was early 2016, and her curiosity drove her to discovering techno was a way to be more expressive.
Dozzer: I came in contact with techno when electronics started playing a major role in music. At this time and age a lot of different genres could be qualified as techno, but having a mechanical soul is what drives the feelings towards the sound.
Latest release ‘Poetic Malfunktion‘.
How did this track come about? What was your source of inspiration and how was the production process?
Bipashna: I am not be able to say anything about the inspiration for writing this song because Dozzer started this piece.
Dozzer: There was no particular source of inspiration but more like a feeling. The production process was a bit lengthy since the elements needed a lot of balancing, especially with the kick and vocals. Experimentation and exploration was key in producing this track.
Is there a hidden meaning in any of your music?
Bipashna: that is up to you to find out!
Dozzer: Well it is a funny question in a way because everything might have a hidden meaning to it. It only depends on what you are looking for. But definitely there are hidden meanings in all of the music that has been produced by me.
We currently have a lockdown due to corona, are you now even more involved in producing and DJing or does it have a negative effect on your music creation?
Bipashna: No. I believe it depends more on if someone wants or needs to produce or mix, so corona doesn’t influence it. Though it is an uncertain time and has caused some downfalls, I can’t say its negative for music creation.
Dozzer: It’s a bad situation for us all but I do not think it has created a negative space in terms of music creation. Inspiration for producing music has always been affected by feelings rather than the life situation.
Bipashna: Don’t know what would be next step or if there will be any collaborations, but the future goal and vision is to build a team like family. To help each other and grow together.
Dozzer: the future is unpredictable, but definitely collaborations are coming. Projekt Doxa is one of the projects that me and Bipashna are involved in, but this project focuses more on the psychedelic side of electronic music. We are both music lovers and we both want to dedicate our time towards what we love, even though it is not an easy road. Keeping a vision is very important. Turning my passion into work is one of the main goals, and being involved in this particular world is a dream which we both are working on.
