Dennis Hill | Upcoming techno dj & producer
Introducing Dennis Hill
My name is Dennis Hill, I`m 27 years old and come from Germany. I live in a small village near Frankfurt. My main job is in a federal agency at the Paul Ehrlich Institute. I am also doing my bachelor in finance and banking on a part-time basis. Otherwise, I meet up with friends or do sports like tennis, go running or go to the gym. And of course, I also spend a few hours in the music studio
Latest release ‘Emotions’
I find it is difficult to put my inspiration into words. I produced the two tracks “Deep Inside” and “Darker Emotions” at a time when I was very depressed. Music helped me in the past and will always help me through difficult phases in life.
The production process of this EP was very fast. It’s not always like that, but in this case those two tracks were produced very fast, because my emotions inspired me and I had a very specific idea in my mind.
How do you feel listening to your own productions?
Very skeptical most of the time. But during the production process I always come to a point at which I realize: wow that is perfect and corresponds exactly to my idea.
How did the process of creating music start for you?
In my opinion, there is no “schedule” for creating a track from 0-100. There are days when inspiration and ideas are simply missing. I often get inspiration when I hear other tracks, also in different genres. If I have enough ideas, production runs quite smoothly.
On average, how much road testing or feedback from friends is needed before you call a track finished? Tell us something about this process.
Feedback is very important for me. I always send a link to friends I know, and they always give me honest feedback. But in the end, I should like my own production, which should not depend what other people think.
Performing on stage
Do you ever get nervous before a performance? How do you deal with it?
When I play in clubs, I get excited and afraid that people will not like the music I play. After the first track and mixing for the next track, I am usually more relaxed and enjoy giving people a good time with my music. People go to clubs to cut off their everyday lives. So, I think it is primarily important for every DJ to reach everyone on the dance floor with his music and the emotions that the music express. That is the main challenge in my opinion.
On which techno record label would you love to release a track one day? Why?
I think there are a lot of labels that are interested in a release. Of course, there are the very successful labels like: Drumcode, Suara, Codex, Say What and many more. It would be an honor for me to publish my tracks on one of those “big” labels, but I would never change my style and the type of music I make to get a deal on one of these labels.
Once the corona-crisis is over, what is the first thing you will do that you cannot do at the moment?
I think the first thing I will do is to go to a club with friends.
I have started some projects and still need some time to finalize them. It is always difficult for me to determine when I will be able to complete projects, since I am busy with my job and studies as well. But new tracks will definitely come!
