Time for some fresh minimal techno
New president, new vaccine, it’s time for a new Era! ‘Era’ is a 129 BPM atmospheric minimal techno-orientated track with melodic elements and a compelling African vocal, which will carry you away into a blissful state. Produced by Dutch music producer Hoss, this track is great for a lighter atmospheric mix or to make sure your crowd warms up and gets into a higher state before heavier things come.
Hoss in his own words:
The track started with some sound design in Xfer Serum. I made a 16th note chord pattern which became the main theme of the track. I didn’t really have a specific source of inspiration for the track, the track became what it is through trial-and-error iterations. Eventually I found a vocal (happy accident) which fitted on the melody. Then I processed it a bit and that became another key element of the track.
Actually, my intention when I started with Era was to just finish a complete track from start until the end. I always produced loops, but then after a nice amount of overthinking I would get sick of the loop and I’d start something new, resulting in never finishing a track and never releasing music online. However, this time I really wanted to force myself into finishing a complete track. Even though it still took longer than it should to finish a track, it is finished. And I’m very happy that the people of Black Mirror Recordings found it good enough to have it released on their label!

Javi Viana releases his first minimal techno EP
Javi Viana’s latest EP ‘Batman‘ released on Black Mirror Recordings is much like that favorite club night that you are looking forward to. Relaxed moments combined with moments of pure energy release. This EP contains four minimal techno tracks: Batman, Carodice, Taste and Les Gallines. The first two tracks Batman and Carodice are the hardest track of this EP. These tracks have hard kicks and basslines, alternated with sweeping drum-breaks and hi-hats. The last two tracks Taste and Les Gallines are, in contrast to Batman and Carodic, a bit calmer. Perfect for DJs to play in a warm-up set.

This is Where We Started
On May 11th Kuba Bednarz released the track Where We Started on our label. Kuba is a 19-year-old DJ and minimal techno producer from Belfast, Ireland. He had a passion for music since as far back as he can remember, and he was always either listening to his favorite artists or playing the drums from a very young age. The main genres he grew up with were the likes of hard rock and metal, up until the age of around 12. Then he discovered electronic music.
Where We Started is a minimal techno/tech house track. The track was inspired by a ‘house’ style bassline which was put together with a techno style vocal, as well as tech house drum patterns and rhythm. The production process of this track actually began by complete accident. Kuba created a random single synth line in his bedroom and it immediately inspired him to start working with it. He went to the studio later that day and had the foundation and structure laid down within a couple of hours. Luckily, he had access to a great studio in the Sonic Arts Research Centre, owned by Queen University, where he is currently studying Music and Audio production. He was able to spend the next 3-4 days working on the song and by the end of the week, the song was finished. He was really happy with the end result because he felt like it reflected his artistic profile in are very good way. He personally feels it is his best body of work so far, so definitely one to look out for!

Alien Pimp and his Weapons of Mass Hypnosis
Finally, we conclude this EP release summary with Weapons of Mass Hypnosis, also recently release on our label by our new family member Alien Pimp. This minimal techno EP is characterized by dark sounds, combined with dub house beats. Especially in the first track ‘Rekanize’ this combination is really coming into fruition.
The tracks are simply music that Alien Pimp loves to hear. The sounds in the tracks came into being during a couple of producing sessions for other projects. He started out by creating a groove that is hypnotic and captivating. It’s a therapeutic and energetic cleansing process. Then the tracks came together naturally in an EP.
The name of EP the ‘Weapons of Mass Hypnosis’ is intriguing in itself. The name is related to what’s happening in the world nowadays, where we are bombarded by all kinds of information 24/7. This has an influence on us humans, and basically hypnotizes us in many ways during our day-to-day lives.
