Introducing Krista Mitsopoulou
Can you introduce yourself? who are you and where are you from? What are you doing in your day-to-day life?
Hi, my name is Krista, and I am delighted to be here. I am born and raised in Thessaloniki and currently living there with my 2 children. Between raising two children and working Monday to Friday, I relish creating Electronic Music.
Tell us the story about your music endeavors. How did you discover techno music and what led you down the path of becoming a producer and/or DJ?
I was a fan of electronic since I was a teenager and always remember me holding a vinyl or a CD while listening different types of electronic music from house, techno to something more pop for the time. Techno was quite the style for me which matched my taste. I was also listening to French house and other various upcoming genres. In my early 20’s I started DJ-ing at a cafe bar in my town. That was when I realized I was smiling while doing it and I was receiving joy and fulfilment. This in turn pushed me to discover more types of electronic music and eventually a few years ago to start creating my own, like the tracks I am releasing now.
When did you come into contact with techno and what is appealing to you about techno music?
Electronic music in general uplifts my spirit and is designed and engineered to trigger internal feelings of happiness. The very nature of it which is positively charged suits exactly my mentality and approach about life.
About your release ‘Neon EP’
We would love to know about the production process of “Neon EP”, please tell us more about how the EP came about? What was your source of inspiration for the tracks? How much effort did it take from start to finish? What issues did you run into?
Neon EP started when I decided to produce a different style of electronic music from what I was used to. My initial reaction was to introduce a larger number of vocals. This time the vocals were also mine. Its nature is less progressive or minimal or melodic techno but more “pop” with a specific pop sound pallet. Specifically, “Dry Quasar” is naturally a pop track while “Mindset” I could say is a mix of different genres and maybe has its own style! With regards to effort, it was a painless production period. I took my time finding the vocals and the fitting sounds to marry the two and create a balanced result. The production of the track itself was straightforward but I did run into a misfortune or two! To be exact, during production, just before Christmas ’21, I accidentally lost all the programs that I use for producing music and specifically my DAW, all my VSTs and Plugins which could not be recovered. Thankfully I had some backups and managed to reorganize the production to the level that was left just before the incident. #notfun!
How do you feel listening to your own productions?
Most of the time, I listen them on repeat until my recorder breaks, just kidding! In general, I listen to my tracks; however, I refrain from mixing with them during DJ-ing sessions.
Is there a difference in style between the music you produce and the music you play in your mixes?
I suppose there is. When I play, I usually play tracks with minimal sounds either house tracks or minimal techno. In contrast, when I create music I experiment more with percussions, ethnic sounds and lately with quite more of my vocals.
What is your favorite style of mixing? What do you like so much about this style?
Usually, I follow the same style and empirically try to match them. I do rely on the groove, tone and drums to match aiming for the end result to be something that I will like.
Can you name three tracks that have influenced your musical development?
I can’t find three songs that really influenced me. The truth is that I keep changing and renewing my tracks every time I make a mix.
Which other producers/DJs inspire you the most and why?
I do have artists like Carl Cox that I like since they use vibrant beats in his tracks.
What’s next for you? Will we see more collaborations of you? What are your future goals?
I really tend to be more productive and give all my energy for creating my music. DJ-ng is not one of my top priorities, especially since the beginning of covid era. Certainly, one of my future goals is to keep producing my music while capturing with my sounds a unique style.
