A passion for techno music, that is what we have! Our adventure started in fall 2018.
Three friends Casper, Maarten and Fabian got an idea. They stuck their heads together, and decided to start a techno record label called Black Mirror Recordings. Why the name “Black Mirror” Recordings you might ask? “Black” refers to dark music and the darker sides of life, which has a strong relation with the underground nature of techno. “Mirror” pointing to what meaning you give to music, and what it reflects from your inner world.
The main goal of our techno record label is to spread high-quality techno music, but that is definitely not the only thing we want achieve. We also aim to connect people who love great underground music, and to continue building and enforcing the already existing techno scene. Besides, we want to serve people our own best techno. We also want to help and promote upcoming artists, who produce high-quality techno. When you sign up to the BMR family, this is what you have to stand for too!
In the future we aim to organize our own label nights, and to inform people much more about the best techno music of this moment. We will publish Q&A’s with artists and we have plans to create much more interesting content for our growing community.
Your own techno music on our techno record label?
About once every three weeks we release new techno on our label. Some labels look at an artist’s popularity on social media. For us it does not matter whether you are a known or unknown artist. What we find especially important is that you produce good quality techno, and that you are passionate about what you do.
Even though we are a record label with a strong preference for techno, that doesn’t mean we are averse to a nice solid deep house record. For example, artists like Isolated System and Enif have released deep house music with us in the past. Tensive Line, Susfractor and Callum Murray on the other hand released techno. To get an impression of all our releases, you best go to the release page.
Ways to sent your best techno to BMR
You can send us your demos in two different ways, via email or via Submithub. Read more about both of them below.
You can send your demo to firstname.lastname@example.org by means of a private Soundcloud link of your track. Don’t send us e-mails with audio files attached to it, we will not take them into consideration! Make sure your tracks are finished and ready to release, because we have a policy of best track first. Please don’t send us reminders to respond to your demo submission. If we like what we hear, we will get in touch with you. We strive to respond to your demo submission within 48 hours. We prefer track that are mastered. We also appreciate that you tell us something more about who you are and about the track or EP, for example how it came about. In addition, add links to your social media artist pages such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and possibly your website.
We can also be found on SubmitHub. This platform gives you the opportunity to send your demo to different labels. To use this platform, you first need to create an account.
There are two ways to log in, with your email address or with Facebook. As soon as you log in you will see a button at the top right with “send a song”. Then you click on “upload a new track”, and choose the relevant track. You will now see three steps to upload and specify your track. Information you have to fill in is artist name, name of your track and mp3 file. After completing these steps, you must indicate that you want to send your track to a record label. Once you have clicked on this you will enter a screen where you can find all the record labels that are affiliated with SubmitHub. All you have to do is look up Black Mirror Recordings and send your track. We also try to respond to your demo submission via Submithub within 48 hours.
When you send your music to us, or when you are ready to sign, make sure you haven’t signed your track(s) to another label yet. Sign your track to one label and one label only! We look forward to receive your demo, happy producing!
Our techno music is supported by DJs all over the world
When you release a track on BMR, there is a chance that your music will soon be played by other (known) DJs. The advantage of releasing a track on Black Mirror Recordings is that we have a large network of (techno) DJs.
Our tracks are therefore regularly supported by various DJs from all over the world. Some well-known names in the techno scene that have supported our tracks are Joseph Cpariati, Slam, Paco Osuna and Aldrin.
Styles of techno on Black Mirror Recordings!
We offer different kinds of techno on our techno record label, varying from dark techno to melodic techno. We all release it! Our styles can be divided into four main groups: dark, hard, melodic and minimal techno.
Dark techno is known to be techno in which dark, raw and grim sounds are used. An artist like Kommando Schwartzee has released dark techno on our label in the past. Well-known techno DJs who play a lot of dark techno are for example Charlotte de Witte and Nina Kraviz.
By hard techno we mean techno that is played a lot at warehouse parties. This music is characterized by a hard kick, rolling bass lines and many prominent hi-hats. Callum Murray has released a techno EP with us in the past that can be placed in this style. Well-known techno DJs who play a lot of hard techno are for example Marcel Dettman and Ellen Alien.
By melodic techno we mean techno in which some uplifting melodies can be heard. In this style dark, raw and grim sounds will occur less. Artists such as Tensive Line and Susfractor have released melodic techno on our label in the past. Some well-known techno DJs who play melodic techno are Artbat, Einmusik and Guy J.
By minimal techno we mean techno with low bass melodies, subtle changes and glitch sounds. Artists such as Alien Pimp have released minimal techno on BMR in the past. Some well-known techno DJs who play minimal techno are Dennis Cruz, Steve Bug and ANOTR.
